Bilaspur Airport was licensed as 2C VFR Public Use airport by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on 06 Dec 2018 for operation of ATR 42 aircraft. Due to limited number of ATR 42 available, scheduled flights could not be started. Subsequently, a project to upgrade the airport to 3C VFR was taken up during Feb/Mar 2019 for facilitating operation of ATR 72 600 aircraft (72 seaters). Unfortunately up gradation work was delayed due to COVID 19. Later Bilaspur Airport got 3C VFR licensed on 27th Jan 2021.
Consequent to receipt of 3C VFR licensed, history was scripted on 01 Mar 2021 when regular scheduled flights took off from Bilaspur Airport in the sectors Delhi – Jabalpur – Bilaspur – Jabalpur – New Delhi and Delhi – Prayagraj – Bilaspur – Prayagraj – New Delhi were.
Later on 05th Jun 2022 flight on the sector Bilaspur – Bhopal – Bilaspur were also started. At present Bilaspur city is connected with four cities viz., Bhopal, Jabalpur, Prayagraj and New Delhi.
Since commencement of schedule flights (01 Mar 2021) till 30 Jun 2022 total passengers footfall is 37,673.
In addition to scheduled flights, a total of 222 non scheduled flights comprising medical and business flights have operated from Bilaspur Airport since licensing.

Airport Upgradation Work
Phase I: (i) Upgradation to 3C IFR on the existing runway dimension for facilitating flight operation during low visibility condition including night operations.
(ii) Construction of new terminal building with handling capacity of 300 passengers departure and 300 passengers arrival.
Phase II: Upgradation of airport to 4C IFR for facilitating operation of Airbus 320/321 and Boeing 737 type aircraft.
